Guardian Maritime at Wyvern College Seavision event

IMG_9884Seavision’s Maritime Week event, held recently at Wyvern College, was without doubt an unqualified success. A number of companies came together to give up their time to demonstrate to pupils that a career at sea is not just working on vessels, including:
Maritime Archaeology Trust,

The Royal Navy

National Oceanography centre

Exxon Mobil

Southampton Solent University

Warsash Maritime Academy

Port of London Authority

Seafarers UK

Guardian Maritime.

Plus many more companies and individuals gave up their time to raise awareness of careers at sea. The variety of opportunities for students to work within the maritime industry are vast, and shown by the number of companies that spent time with the students talking through the various options available.

Guardian Maritime were overwhelmed by the interest shown and would like to say a big thankyou to the IT department who managed to stream a clip of Captain Phillips, which played alongside the demo video of GUARDIAN™ barriers stopping pirates accessing the deck of a vessel. This sparked off a lively debate with the students about security on vessels, and they raised many questions about the reasons modern piracy began and what is being done in the shipping world to combat this threat, which resulted in some very interesting discussions.

A huge thank you to the students for being so welcoming, and to the staff and Headteacher Mr Newton who encouraged students to interact and ask questions. Finally, huge thanks go to Ewen at Seavision for organising the event.
